Ahead of Virupaksha OTT release, Sai Dharam Tej-starrer collects Rs 100 crore at box office

Telugu actor Sai Dharam Tej has scored the biggest hit in his career with Virupaksha. On Thursday, he celebrated the movie's commercial success by expressing gratitude to fans as the movie raked in Rs 100 crore at the box office just two days ahead of its much-awaited OTT debut .

Virupaksha was released in cinemas last month without a lot of fanfare. Many didn't expect this film to do wonders on the box office window. However, things changed soon after the release. On the opening day, the movie generated positive reviews and terrific word of mouth, helping it beat all the odds at the box office. The filmmakers even cashed in on the growing popularity by releasing it in Tamil. 

Virupaksha is directed by Karthik Varma Dandu and written by renowned filmmaker Sukumar of Pushpa fame. Produced by B. V. S. N. Prasad and Sukumar through Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra and Sukumar Writings, the movie has Samyuktha as the female lead. Virupaksha also has Sunil, Rajeev Kanakala, Brahmaji, Ajay, and Ravi Krishna in supporting roles.

Virupaksha revolves around the life of Surya, who returns to his mother's village, Rudravanam. Beneath the tranquil facade of the village lies a deep, dark secret. The community is plagued by mysterious deaths, believed to be linked to occult practices, spreading fear among the inhabitants. As the villagers embark on a quest to unmask the culprit responsible for these unsettling occurrences, the situation only escalates, leading to more complexities and challenges.

Virupaksha will become available for streaming on Netflix on May 21.
