The entire world awaits the release of Oppenheimer, a new Christopher Nolan epic that is set to arrive in cinemas on July 21. The master filmmaker enjoys enviable fame and regard across the world and he boasts a huge fandom in India alone, where several of his previous outings have worked tremendously well at the box office.
And as a special treat for the admirers of the 52-year-old filmmaker, five of his masterpieces will be re-released in theatres ahead of the release of Oppenheimer. This 'pre-gaming' opportunity includes The Dark Knight and the sequel The Dark Knight Rises, the Leonardo DiCaprio-led time-bending thriller Inception, the space odyssey Interstellar and the war epic Dunkirk.
All these films will be released by the very popular multiplex exhibitor PVR INOX as part of the Nolan Film Festival from July 17 to July 20.
Each of Chris Nolan's films, particularly the five mentioned above, has been regarded as a consummate big-screen experience unlike any other for there is no better way to appreciate his purist approach. Known to be very rigid and meticulous about the way he goes about his craft, Nolan has stuck to shooting on film right from the time made his debut in 2000 with Following (shot on 16 mm), and has vehemently declined the offer to switch to digital since then.
Oppenheimer, which sees him reunite with his Dunkirk, Tenet and Interstellar cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema, is filmed on 65 mm IMAX and large-format film (those exceptional close-up shots in the film/trailer reveal the essence of this), including a portion that is shot on IMAX black-and-white film for the very first time in the history of cinema. The film also boasts minimal CGI with Christopher Nolan and Co. opting for practical visual effects over computer-generated imagery.
Oppenheimer stars Cillian Murphy as renowned theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer with Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Josh Harnett and others. Ludwig Göransson has scored the music.
