Eid is around the corner and it is marked with feasts shared with family and friends. A staple at these feasts is biryani, which is usually made with meat.
This year, Sam Bahadur actor Fatima Sana Shaikh is encouraging people to celebrate the festivities in a slightly different way.
In the lead-up to Eid ul-Adha, Fatima donated healthy vegan biryani and served 1,000 people in New Delhi's Bengali Basti in Vasant Kunj with plant-based chocolate milk.
Titled Dawat-e-Eid, she did this in association with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India and Little India Foundation.
Fathima is a vegetarian and said that she was delighted that she got to spread kindness and good health to so many people. Speaking about the food distribution, she said, "By distributing vegan biryani to those in need, we aim to spread kindness and good health."
According to PETA India, vegetarian and vegan Muslims in India, and many others, celebrate Eid ul-Adha by distributing vegan food or helping those in need in ways that do not involve animals, over concerns about animal welfare, human health, and the environment.
