Kalyana Krishnan's Agilan, starring Jayam Ravi in the titular role, was supposed to hit the screens in September. But the action drama's release was postponed further by a few months and finally arrived in theatres a week ago. The film, which is set against the backdrop of Chennai sea port, opened to mixed reviews.

Ravi's performance, visuals by Vivekanand Santhosham and background score by Sam CS received appreciation from critics and the audience while its weak screenplay, lack of engaging conflicts and the absence of an intriguing antagonist received backlash from film lovers.

Despite decent expectations, the movie opened to not-so-encouraging numbers at the box office on day one. Hareesh Peradi, Chirag Jani, Harish Uthaman, Priya Bhavani Shankar and Tanya Ravichandran among others play key roles in the project which was bankrolled by Screen Scene Media Entertainment.

Red Giant Movies presented Agilan across Tamil Nadu while Ayngaran International distributed the film in overseas markets. It marked the second collaboration of Ravi and Krishnan after Booloham which was released in 2015. Kalaignar TV had bagged the movie's satellite rights a while ago.

Agilan will drop on Zee5 on March 31, exactly three weeks after its theatrical release. We hear that the makers' plan was to have its OTT premiere in the first week of April, but they pre-poned it by a week owing to the dismal response from viewers. The news of Zee5  acquiring its digital rights was out earlier.

Ravi will next be seen in Ponniyin Selvan 2 which will be released on April 28 in theatres worldwide. The actor has Anthony Bhagyaraj's Siren, Rajesh's JR 30 and Ahmed's Iraivan in his kitty. Among the three projects, at least one of them is sure to hit the screens after a few months.
