Rishab Shetty's Kantara has been nothing short of a phenomenon and looks like the film has some more distance to travel. According to the latest reports, the makers are contemplating the release of the English version of Kantara in the coming days and should things fall in place, it will be among the very few Kannada films that have been dubbed in English.

In a recent conversation with the Financial Express, Chaluve Gowda, managing director of the Hombale Group, revealed that the plans are certainly on as far as the English version of Kantara is concerned. Although his statement does not include the exact strategy laid out by the producers, the same report suggests that an announcement is around the corner. Whether Kantara (English) will be a theatrical release or a straight-to-OTT product is still unclear at the moment.

The speculations arise only a few days after the makers of Kantara announced that the Tulu dubbed version of the film will be released in Indian theatres on December 2 and overseas on November 25. The team took to social media to make the announcement and also unveil the Tulu trailer of the film. By this virtue, Kantara has been released across six different Indian languages to date.

Chaluve Gowda also alludes to the unprecedented fandom of Kantara which, by all means, caught the entire team off guard. What was meant to be a Kannada release alone, Kantara had to be eventually dubbed and released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam within a span of two weeks. The film is currently premiering on Amazon Prime Video in all languages except for Hindi.

Interestingly, should Kantara be eventually dubbed and released in English, it will be the first Hombale Films' venture to achieve the feat. Previously, in fact, not very long ago, Vikrant Rona starring Kiccha Sudeep boasted an English version in the theatres and the makers had also unveiled the trailer of the dubbed release. However, due to unknown factors, Vikrant Rona - English was unable to see the light of day although the film did make it as a bona fide pan-Indian release (across five languages including Kannada). Regardless, Sudeep became the first Kannada actor to dub for a film in English.
