After his trysts with historical war drama and family dramas, Akshay Kumar is all set to return to comedy soon with a project helmed by Happy Bhag Jayegi and Pati Patni Aur Woh filmmaker Mudassar Aziz.

The director has apparently been in discussions with the Bollywood star for a comedy entertainer titled Khel Khel Mein, which will be produced by Bhushan Kumar and Ashwin Varde. The dates for the film are yet to be sorted as the filmmaker also has another project that is set to go on floors.

A source told Pinkvilla that Akshay is excited about working in Mudassar’s movie as it will see him back in the all-out comedy genre after a while. The director has also signed up for Meri Patni Ka remake, which has Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pendnekar in the lead.

Meanwhile, Akshay had also allotted his dates to Khel Khel Mein producer Varde for OMG: Oh My God 2, which is gearing up for a 2023 release. The actor’s next release will be Aanand L Rai’s Rakha Bandhan, which is expected to hit theatres on August 11. He has signed up for an action-thriller based on the Indian Airforce that will be bankrolled by Dinesh Vijan.

Talking about out-and-out comedy, the superstar is also expected to reprise his role in Hera Pheri 3, which has been confirmed by producer Firoz Nadiadwala recently. The movie will also have Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal returning and is expected to go on floors soon.

The actor will be hoping that his next set of movies that also includes Selfiee, the Hindi remake of Malayalam movie Driving Licence, would turn the fortunes for him at the box office after the disastrous runs of Samrat Prithviraj and Bachchhan Paandey. Meanwhile, Samrat Prithviraj is set to drop on Amazon Prime Video on July 1.
