After Peacemaker, James Gunn to create another Suicide Squad spinoff series

Another Suicide Squad spinoff series is reportedly in the works, according to Hollywood filmmaker James Gunn. In an episode of Deadline's Hero Nation, the ace director made the revelation. He explained that they are currently working on something else, another TV show set in that universe. He also mentioned the second season of Peacemaker, which just released episode five, saying that there's a fairly good likelihood of that.

Gunn continued, speaking on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 in Atlanta, that Peacemaker is the biggest show in the world right now.

Meanwhile, the filmmaker has approached HBO Max with the concept of a new series based on one of the characters from Suicide Squad, according to sources. As per Deadline, the project is still in its early stages, with nothing written or greenlit, but HBO Max is interested based on Gunn's enthusiasm for the concept.

While Gunn hasn't confirmed that Idris Elba's Bloodsport or Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn are the characters he's contemplating, it appears that the two actors' calendars are currently too full to fit into a TV series. That, however, is subject to change.

When asked if Doctor Who alum and Suicide Squad star Peter Capaldi, who portrayed Thinker in the previous film, would appear in the next Suicide Squad series on HBO Max, Gunn replied that he was at a loss for words. He also revealed that it will be set in the same universe as Peacemaker, but he doesn't think it'll be in the same genre. However, Gunn also shared that it won't be as funny as Peacemaker, but it'll be set in the same universe.

Regarding Cena's show, the director also said that it is doing exceptionally well, and they are delighted. While working on the second season, they just need to cross some Ts and dot some Is, which is basically him.

Gunn's concept of Peacemaker was conceptualized while he was finalizing the cut of Suicide Squad amid the pandemic lockdown of 2020. He explained that he was starting to become bored since he was on lockdown, unhappy, and suffering from significant anxiety like a lot of them were at the time and still are. That is where Peacemaker originated, and he needed something to make him feel better.
