The latest Malayalam movies have become the toast of the Tamil Nadu box office. Even as Manjummel Boys continues to dominate the box office in the state, Premalu has also taken a very encouraging opening in cinemas there.
According to sources, the Tamil dubbed version of Premalu raked in more than Rs 50 lakh on its opening day in Tamil Nadu alone. The film is showing strong pre-sales for the weekend, providing much-needed respite to the embattled cinemas in the state.
Reports indicate that in the last two days, the Tamil version alone has sold more than Rs 1.2 crore worth of tickets worldwide. Given the trends, the film is likely to capitalize on the growing popularity of Malayalam movies among Tamil audiences globally.
It remains to be seen whether Premalu can replicate the same success as Manjummel Boys in Tamil Nadu. Manjummel Boys became the first Malayalam film to breach the Rs 50 crore mark at the box office in Tamil Nadu.
Premalu was first released in Malayalam on February 9 amid no pre-release hype or anticipation. However, the film not only managed to strike a chord with young audiences but also resonated with audiences of all age groups.
Premalu became the first big hit of Malayalam this year, preceding the release of Manjummel Boys.

While Manjummel Boys continues to find success in Tamil Nadu, Premalu pulled off something similar in the Telugu states.
The Telugu version of Premalu, released last week, left audiences in the Telugu-speaking states in splits. Reports indicate that the global collection of the Telugu version is close to Rs 10 crore.
The collection of Premalu from all versions so far has already surpassed the Rs 110 crore mark at the global box office. Judging by the reception it is receiving among Tamil and Telugu-speaking audiences, the film seems to be in no mood to slow down.
