Even as actor-director Soubin Shahir is gearing up to begin his next directorial Othiram Kadakkam with Dulquer Salmaan in the lead, he also has another much-anticipated project with Mammootty that will go on floors once the pandemic subsides.
Soubin, who made his directorial debut with Parava in 2017, recently revealed that he has finished the script of the Mammootty-starrer that was supposed to begin shooting last year. In a press meet in Kochi, the actor-director said that Mammootty will be playing a ‘naadan’ character in the movie, which has a “modern theme”.
Further on the movie, he said that the film will not be a “mass entertainer” but rather revolves around mind games between its characters. Soubin, meanwhile, has shared screen space with Mammootty in Amal Neerad’s upcoming movie Bheeshmaparvam.
The actor plays Ajas in the gangster-thriller, which is set in the mid-80s. Apart from Mammootty and Soubin, the movie also has Nedumudi Venu, Sreenath Bhasi, Lena, Sudev Nair and Dileesh Pothan in pivotal roles.
Soubin also talked about his upcoming directorial with Dulquer, which will reportedly go on floors in February 2022. The film is a comedy and will have the Kurup actor in a role that he hasn’t played before, revealed the actor-director, who had earlier directed Dulquer in Parava. Soubin also revealed that initially he was planning to do the lead role himself, but then thought it would be better if Dulquer played character as it would have him in a different look altogether.
Soubin will next be seen in Lal Jose’s film Meow, which has Mamta Mohandas as the female protagonist. The duo plays Dasthakeer and Sulekha, respectively, in the movie scripted by Dr Iqbal Kuttipuram. The movie was shot in Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah. Meow is set to release in theatres across Kerala on December 24.
