Adipurush controversy: Writer Manoj Muntashir calls Ramayan an 'action film', explains Hanuman's 'Kapda tere baap ka' line

The movie Adipurush, starring Prabhas, which released on Friday, June 16, in theatres all around the world, has become the most discussed topic on social media. Even though the movie had a very good opening weekend, earning close to Rs 140 crore worldwide, its visual effects and dialogue garnered some flak.

As we all know that the film's VFX were already a topic of discussion, even the dialogue is being criticised by the moviegoers. Manoj Muntashir, a writer and lyricist who wrote the dialogue for Adipurush, is taking a lot of troll abuse in the midst of this.

Many people were shocked to see dialogues, like "jali kya," and "Tel tere baap ka. Aag bhi tere baap ki. Toh jalegi bhi tere baap ki", in a Ramayan adaptation. Some people thought it was inappropriate, while others claimed it didn't go with the movie's genre. 

Now, Manoj Muntashir, the three-time National Film Award-winning dialogue writer of Adipurush, has defended the dialogues. When asked in an interview with Republic World if it was a mistake on his part to oversimplify Hanuman's dialogues in Adipurush or if it was done to create a stronger audience connection, the dialogue writer responded, "It is not an error."

He added, “A very meticulous thought process that has gone into writing the dialogues for Bajrangbali. We have made it simple because we have to understand one thing (that) if there are multiple characters in a film, all of them can’t speak the same language. There has to be a kind of diversion, a division.”

When asked if Hanuman ji’s dialogues were oversimplified, the writer said, “Is desh ke sant, is desh ke bade bade katha vaachak, aisehi bolte hai jaise maine likha hai. I’m not the first one to write this dialogue, it is already there.” Finally when the reporter asked if you are making Ramayan into an action film, the writer said, “Ramayan is an action film.”

The mythical story Adipurush, which Om Raut directed, is based on the Ramayana by Valmiki. Prabhas plays Lord Ram in the movie, while Kriti Sanon plays Sita and Saif Ali Khan plays Raavan. The supporting cast includes Devdatta Nage and Sunny Singh.
