Nandamuri Balakrishna, who started the year on an optimistic note with the success of Veera Simha Reddy, will be seen in another intense role in director Anil Ravipudi’s action entertainer Bhagavanth Kesari. The film, where he shares screen space alongside Kajal Aggarwal, Sreeleela, Arjun Rampal, Sarathkumar, is set for a release this Dussehra on October 19.

There’s some good news for Balakrishna fans, who’ll get to see their star in another film before Bhagavanth Kesari. Yes, you heard it right! After the impressive responses to the re-releases of hit films like Chennakesava Reddy, Narasimha Naidu, get ready to be transported into a fantasy universe with the star’s 1994 release Bhairava Dweepam.

The upgraded 4K version of Bhairava Dweepam, starring Balakrishna, Roja in lead roles, will be released by Chandra Sekar Kumaraswamy, P Dev Varma of Claps Infotainment in association with PV Giri Raju. The story revolves around Vijay, an abandoned prince, who falls in love with Padmavathi, a princess. Tragedy strikes when a sorcerer summons her to an island and plans to kill her, in a bid to rule the universe. How far will Vijay go to rescue her from evil forces?

Noted actor-writer Raavi Kondala Rao wrote the story for the film, which was more or less a reimagined version of Pathala Bhairavi for the 90s audience, marking the return of folklore genre in Telugu cinema after multiple decades. Singeetam Srinivasa Rao wrote the screenplay for the film which had music by Madhavapeddi Suresh. The film’s songs continue to enjoy popularity today too.

Bhairava Dweepam won 9 Nandi Awards, earned critical acclaim and box office success. The film was produced by B Venkatarami Reddy, son of veteran producer B Nagi Reddy, under Chandamama Vijaya Combines. Kaikala Satyanarayana, KR Vijaya, Vijayakumar, Rambha, Vijaya Rangaraju, Subhalekha Sudhakar, Giri Babu, Babu Mohan, Mikkilineni, Padmanabham played key roles in the film too.
