It looks like the season of re-releases. After Baba, Rajinikanth's popular flick Sivaji: The Boss is all set for a re-release on December 9, 2023. The film will be screened in theatres in the Telugu-speaking states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Producer Arun Guhan of AVM Productions, made the announcement on her social media handle. "You asked, we heard you! Here comes a super treat for Superstar, @rajinikanth's fans in Andhra and Telangana!! Enjoy #SivajiTheBoss on the big screen in select theatres in Andhra & Telangana, from the 9th of December 2023 as part of a week-long celebration for his birthday! (sic)"
On the 15th anniversary of the fil m last year, the Superstar himself had thanked the film's director, cast and technicians and his fans. Sivaji: The Boss was directed by Shankar, and the action drama is considered a true blue Rajinikanth film, with stylish scenes galore. Rajinikanth played a software engineer who returns to India to help the poor here, offer them free education and medical care. The film emerged as one of the highest grossers of the year in 2007.
Star cast and crew
The ensemble star cast includes Rajinikanth, Sivaji Ganesan, Vivek, Suman, Raghuvaran, Manivannan, Vadivukkarasi, Cochin Haneefa, Ravikumar, Solomon Pappayya to name a few. Music for the film is by AR Rahman, cinematography is by KV Anand and editing is by Anthony Gonsalves.
Baba gets a re-release
The digitalised version of Baba (2002), helmed by Suresh Krissna, was released last year on the occasion of the Superstar's birthday. Rajinikanth played a carefree youngster who grows up to be an atheist, but is considered a reincarnation of a saint and has special powers. The film opened to packed houses on re-release. On initial release, Baba had opened to mixed reviews and met with a lukewarm response.
