National Award-winning director Dr Biju’s (Dr Bijukumar Damodaran) latest movie, Adrishya Jalakangal, is all set to premiere at the 27th Tallinn Black Nights International Film Festival. Now, the makers of the film have released the trailer, featuring Tovino Thomas as the lead actor, with Nimisha Sajayan and Indrans also playing important roles. Nimisha was last seen alongside Tovino in Madhupal’s Oru Kuprasidha Payyan.
Adrishya Jalakangal is a surreal tale against a backdrop of war
Biju is known for his arthouse films like Valiya Chirakulla Pakshikal, Akashathinte Niram and Veettilekkulla Vazhi. However, the trailer of Adrishya Jalakangal promises to incorporate elements of fantasy, which is a departure from Biju’s usual style that deals with the harsh realities of life.
In the trailer, Tovino’s character appears raw and unpolished, which is very different from his previous roles. In the movie, his character sees visions of dead people and can communicate with them. The film is set against the backdrop of an impending war, and Tovino’s character seems out of place in the country, almost like an alien.
The trailer has been successful in piquing viewers’ interest in the lead character. Adrishya Jalakangal is also competing with other movies at the film festival, making it the first entry from Malayalam cinema to do so.
Tovino Thomas’ upcoming projects
Tovino is currently shooting for Nadikar Thilakam, directed by Lal Jr. The film, scripted by Suvin Somasekharan, also stars Soubin Shahir in a lead role. Once it’s completed, Tovino will join one of the biggest projects in his career, Identity, directed by the makers of Forensic. Identity is a high-octane action thriller and is expected to feature some exhilarating action sequences involving Tovino, after Thallumaala.
The actor’s upcoming releases also include Anweshippin Kandethum, which is scheduled to hit the theatres in December. There is also the big-budget Ajayante Randam Moshanam, which is planned for an early 2024 release.
