Aditi Rao Hydari walked the red carpet of the Cannes International Film Festival recently. The actor, who has appeared in a number of movies of different languages, said that she broke down in tears when she learnt that her movie was releasing on OTT.
At the India Pavilion at Cannes Film Festival’s Marche Du Film, she revealed that she had a meltdown after seeing that her Malayalam movie Sufiyum Sujatayum released on OTT and not in theatres.
“It was a very special Malayalam film and I was playing a mute girl. I was so excited for its theatrical release. I wept loudly. They (the makers) took my view into consideration, but I realised that I can’t put producers under stress,” Aditi said in an interview with the Times of India.
The actor also added that she soon learnt the power of OTT platforms after she started getting appreciation and that she realised that the medium is not important. Sufiyum Sujatayum, co-starring Jayasurya and Dev Mohan, released on Amazon Prime Video.
Aditi also talked about working with Mani Ratnam in detail. She worked with the ace-filmmaker in 2017’s Kaatru Veliyidai, co-starring Karthi. She revealed that she was a big fan of the director growing up and that she wanted to work with him. Calling him her favourite director, she added that she would work with him a million more times and that he made her believe that dreams do come true.
The actor also chipped in about the South vs North debate in an interview on the sidelines of Cannes, saying that we need to be more inclusive as an industry. Aditi was last seen in the Tamil romantic drama, Hey Sinamika, co-starring Dulquer Salmaan and Kajal Aggarwal.
