The summer of 2023 promises to be an entertaining one for moviegoers with multiple big-ticket releases in the offing. With 2022 yielding extraordinary results for the pan-India concept, one maintains a keen eye on what the 2023 edition has to offer. A number of major South Indian films are up for release this year with stars like Prabhas, Chiyaan Vikram, Naga Chaitanya, etc. as part of the mix. Joining them are the Hindi stalwarts Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh and by the looks of it, the summer will be bright and eventful.
IMDb, the most popular Internet Movie Database, seems well aware of what Indian cinema has in store and the site recently shared an interesting list of 'most anticipated' films for the 2023 summer. Using its own page-views data as its main criteria, IMDb has presented a top-10 list of the Most Anticipated Indian Movies of the Summer for the period of May 1 to August 31, 2023. The list includes the most obvious names like Atlee's Jawan and Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal along with Om Raut's mythology epic Adipurush, but it also manages to throw up a couple of surprises.
Jawan, the Shah Rukh Khan starrer, tops the list with Animal taking the second spot and Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Sunny Singh starrer Adipurush finishing third on the podium. Sunny Deol's gusto-filled sequel Gadar 2, too, features in the list (at #4) with Amit Sharma's Maidaan, starring Ajay Devgn, Yodha starring Sidharth Malhotra, Disha Patani and Raashi Khanna and Karan Johar's romcom with Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, taking 6th, 7th and 8th positions.
South Indian movies continue to be the rage and Telugu actor Naga Chaitanya and filmmaker Venkat Prabhu, too, make the cut with their bilingual action drama Custody. Internet users seem to be quite curious about the Teja Sajja and Amritha Aiyer starrer Hanu-Man, which is set to release on May 12, as the film finishes 9th on IMDb's most anticipated list.
The biggest surprise is the inclusion of the Hindi version of Chatrapathi. V.V. Vinayak makes his Hindi debut along with Bellamkonda Srinivas in the remake of the 2005 S.S. Rajamouli blockbuster of the same name, which stars Prabhas and Shriya Saran.
Well, one does hope that each of the films on this list does go on to impress the audience and deliver great box office results. It isn't guaranteed that the films featured here will prove to be bona fide box office successes but the trend, so to speak, does reflect that south Indian films and stars are very much in vogue.
