Adah Sharma reacts to criticism of her highest-grosser film The Kerala Story: 'Release se 10 din pehle joh gaaliyan...'

Adah Sharma-starrer The Kerala Story is currently streaming on ZEE5 (OTTPlay Premium). Inspired by real-life stories, the film narrates the tale of three women from Kerala who were followers of different religions and were tricked into converting to Islam, and getting involved in terrorism, facing danger on a daily basis. Directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the film broke records and became one of the highest-grossing films that earned Rs 300 crore. In a new interview, Adah revealed that The Kerala Story faced negative criticism even before its release.

During a recent appearance on Bharti TV podcast, Adah Sharma opened up on why she opted for The Kerala Story. She said that when they were shooting The Kerala Story, she did not know that they were doing political. She felt it's a story about a girl, and it's about ISS and these people are making girls suicide bombers and they all are against terrorists.

Speaking about the criticism that The Kerala Story faced before its release and broke records, becoming one of the highest-grossing films, Adah shared, "Release se 10 din pehle joh gaaliyan thi, I was reacting to each one, and I was like, wait and watch the film. Yeh 2 min ke trailer pe kya kar rahe ho tum log. Then finally, when the film was released, everybody was quiet."

Adah Sharma's work front

Adah is all set to be seen in the upcoming series titled Reeta Sanyal. Directed by Abhirup Ghosh, the show is based on a character created by renowned writer Amit Khan. In a statement, the actress shared that she got to essay 10 roles in just one show.

On September 25, Disney+ Hotstar shared a clip featuring Adah announcing the release date of her upcoming series Reeta Sanyal. In the video, the actress can be seen as a lawyer.

Sharing the clip, the streaming platform captioned it, "Tehelka machaane aa rahi hai #ReetaSanyal streaming October 14th on @disneyplushotstar" Reacting to the announcement, the actress commented, "Reeta Sanyal aa rahi hai to solve crime ! Are you ready ?"

Speaking about her character in Reeta Sanyal, Adah shared in a statement, "I've always wanted to play a character like Reeta Sanyal. I've been fortunate to not be typecast and got to play characters – some admirable, some scary, some sweet and many unlike me but the minute I read the script for Reeta Sanyal, I knew this was the show for me."

She further shared that Reeta Sanyal is full of action, comedy, drama, thrill, and crime and added that this series captures the essence of the challenges faced by a girl who is trying to make it big as a lawyer and detective. "What makes it stand apart from something that you have seen before is, Reeta Sanyal is like reading a comic book. It's fun, exciting, thrilling and larger than life," Adah shared.

Meanwhile, Reeta Sanyal will be available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from October 14, 2024.
