For months, we have eagerly anticipated Fawad Khan’s return to Hindi cinema, and what better way to mark his comeback than with a romantic comedy? After an unexpected hiatus from Bollywood due to unforeseen circumstances that led to his departure from India, Fawad left fans excited when it was confirmed that he would be starring alongside Vaani Kapoor in a rom-com titled Abir Gulaal, set to be filmed in London. Behind-the-scenes stills from the shoot quickly went viral, heightening anticipation for the film’s release. Now, the wait is finally over, as the makers have unveiled the teaser and announced the release date.

Starring Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor in the lead, Abir Gulaal, according to its official synopsis, is “a heartwarming tale set against the picturesque streets of London, weaving a love story filled with unexpected turns, tender moments, and pure magic. Audiences can expect a delightful blend of laughter, romance, and undeniable chemistry between Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor.”

Abir Gulaal is directed by Chalti Rahe Zindagi fame Aarti S. Bagdi and produced by Indian Stories and A Richer Lens in association with Aarjay Pictures. Avantika Hari, Rakesh Sippy, and Vivek B. Agrawal (Queen, Udta Punjab, Sacred Games) serve as producers. This film marks Fawad Khan’s return to the Indian entertainment industry after nearly a decade.
Alongside Vaani Kapoor, Abir Gulaal is set to hit theaters worldwide on May 9, 2025.

Fawad Khan’s Return to Bollywood
Since 2016, an unofficial ban on Pakistani artists working in India has been in effect due to political tensions between the two nations, with various political groups in India demanding restrictions. While no legal directive was issued, in 2023, a petition seeking an official ban on Pakistani artists was filed in the Bombay High Court. The court, however, dismissed the plea.
In its ruling, the court stated, “Arts, music, sports, culture, dance, and so on are activities that transcend nationalities, cultures, and nations. They truly foster peace, tranquility, unity, and harmony within and between nations.”
With Abir Gulaal set for release on May 9, 2025, the film has become one of the most highly anticipated projects in the country.
