Koli Taal, by debutant director Abhilash Shetty, which premiered at the New York Indian Film Festival in 2021 and then went to several others around the globe is coming to the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. The film will be screened as part of the Spotlight section of the festival, along with films like A Home for my heart, a.k.a, Borderlands, Desire, Goldfish, Mirror, Once Upon a Village, Our Home, River of Blood, Shoebox, The Small-Town Sea, Three Legged Horse, Tortoise under the Earth and Two Sisters and a Husband.
According to the official synopsis of the film, Koli Taal is about an elderly couple, who are excited about their grandson’s visit, and plan to cook chicken curry for dinner. But things go awry when the chicken goes missing. Hence grandpa goes on an adventure to find the rooster and serve the curry before his grandson leaves for town.
Abhilash has been quoted as saying that the subject of the film, about a missing rooster, is close to my heart and based on my childhood memories. Koli Taal is a film that Abhilash shot in 15 days straight, but then took another 200-odd days in post-production to present the final product. It was a nightmare, the filmmaker was quoted as saying, so much so that once it was finished, he went to Gokarna and rested for a week.
This year, the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival is an online edition, so Koli Taal will be available to watch from March 4, 12 pm to midnight of March 6.
