Fahadh Faasil about Malayalam cinema’s struggles to find OTT platforms

In his chat with the Galatta Plus YouTube channel, Fahadh Faasil, who is also a film producer, revealed that the Malayalam film industry is still struggling with the lack of solid backing from the OTT platforms. The actor pointed out that the issue still exists, even though the trade has grown immensely. The Aavesham star’s revelation has shocked the cine-goers, as Malayalam cinema has been considered the finest film industry in the country, especially in recent times. The National Award winner revealed that Malayalam films still need to prove themselves at the theatres first, to crack an OTT deal.

The actor-producer also pointed out that over 80 percent of films from the other Indian film industries successfully crack the OTT deals quite easily. Fahadh Faasil pointed out how the OTT streaming rights of films from other industries are sold much before the shoot has started. Well, the revelations of the Premalu producer are indeed true, as many recent Malayalam blockbusters struggled a lot to find an OTT platform. Shockingly, even the all-time highest-grossing Malayalam film Manjummel Boys struggled to land an OTT deal despite performing extremely well at the box office.

Aavesham OTT rights are sold

Meanwhile, the OTT rights of Aavesham have been bagged by the leading streaming platform Amazon Prime Video, for a whopping price. While considering the exceptional box office performance of the Jithu Madhavan directorial, it is now safe to assume that the movie might get an extended theatrical run. However, the Fahadh Faasil-starrer is reportedly set to get its OTT release by the end of May or the beginning of June 2024.
