A year ago, Kannada actor Anissh had announced his next, a film called Aaram Aravinda Swamy, which, he said, was his answer to the constant requests from fans to stop doing routine commercial films. If an out-of-the-box story and character is what they wanted, that’s exactly what he was going to give them with actor-director Abhishek Shetty’s film. A couple of months ago, the team had its first public press briefing after completing the film, and today, exactly a year after Anissh’s first announcement and coinciding yet again with his birthday, they have released the first video song. This is the title song, a fun dance number, which gives audiences an idea about Anissh’s character in the film.

Aaram Aravinda Swamy is a new start for lead actor Anissh, who says that had his film Benki not flopped at the box office, he would not have considered a changeover. The abysmal collections of Benki were an eye-opener for the actor, who almost thought that this would mark the end of his career. Around this time, he also began paying attention to feedback from fans and well-wishers that he was stuck in a zone and doing the same kind of roles. As far as he was concerned, he thought he was doing different roles – Akira was a love story, Ramarjuna was set in a slum and Benki was a brother-sister sentiment. But for audiences, these were all action flicks that offered nothing new, a realisation that finally struck Anissh when he saw the collections of Benki.

When Anissh then met Abhishek, who’d earlier done Nam Gani BCom Pass and Gajanana and Gang, the filmmaker’s first instinct was to narrate yet another action movie story. It was only when Anissh then told him he was not looking for something in an action genre that Abhishek broached the subject of a script he’d written for himself. He’d even announced it as a film with himself in the lead, but it did not pan out. “Abhishek said that if I like the story, he will make it with me in the lead,” said Anissh, who adds that he was floored within 10 minutes of the narration.
