Aanaparambile World Cup release date: When and where to watch Antony Varghese’s sports film

Malayalam actor Antony Varghese has a stellar box office record. His previous films as a hero – Angamaly Diairies, Swathandryam Ardharathriyil and Ajagajantharam have all been superhits. His next film Aanaparambile World Cup is also expected to follow suit, especially with the timing of its release coinciding with the start of a lengthy football season for the fans with Indian Super League kicking off next month and the Football World Cup in Qatar to follow in November.

The upcoming movie, which had completed its shoot before the pandemic, is directed by debutant Nikhil Premraj and has Antony essaying the role of a football player who takes up the mission of helping out a group of kids to win an under-14 tournament.

Apart from Antony, the movie also has Balu Varghese, Lukman Avaran, IM Vijayan and Jo Paul Ancheri in the lead roles. Jumana Khan will be essaying the role of the female protagonist in the movie, which mainly focuses on the children.

In an interview with OTTplay, the movie’s director Nikhil said, “It’s probably the first time after a really long gap that a fun, sports is being made that tells the story of a group of children. It’s a film that will appeal of all kinds of audience and Antony will be seen in totally different avatar.”

The team had been in discussion to release the film on OTTs last year but the due to several hurdles, it didn’t work out. However, they are seeing it as a silver lining as now the football season will coincide with the movie’s release on October 21 in theatres.

The makers of the movie have also tied up with Kerala Blasters football club for the film’s promotions. On its OTT release, Nikhil informs us that the movie could hit an OTT platform in time for the 2022 football World Cup, which is expected to kick off on November 20, 2022.
