The OTT rights of director Shafi’s latest comedy entertainer Aanandham Paramaanandham, which hit theatres a few days ago, has been grabbed by a leading regional streaming platform. The movie, which has Indrans and Sharafudheen in the lead roles, is scripted by Munthirivallikal Thalirkumbol scriptwriter M Sindhuraj.
The movie revolves around a retired postman, Divakaran Kurup, who spend his time now at the local toddy shop. A Gulf returnee, Gireesh PP, who is also an alcoholic, gives him company. While their love for alcohol unites them, things turn topsy turvy when Gireesh falls for the former’s daughter. The film also has Aju Varghese, Baiju Santosh and Anagha in pivotal roles.
In an earlier interview with OTTPlay, Shafi had said that he and film’s scriptwriter Sindhuraj had been planning to collaborate for the over a decade now. “I would share with some ideas that he wouldn’t like and vice versa. But when he narrated this thread, I found it interesting because it had humour and also a social message,” said Shafi.
The Kalyanaraman filmmaker also said that though he has tried to tone down the comedy in this movie, it still is a movie that the audience expects from him. “I have not tried to make it very loud or dramatic like my previous movies,” he said. “It’s a light-hearted tale and has emotions that will appeal to the family audiences.”
The movie’s OTT rights have been bagged by Manorama Max, which is expected to drop the movie on its platform early next year. Meanwhile, Shafi, whose previous movie Children’s Park also starred Sharafudheen, is next expected to team up with either Dileep or Jayasurya.
“I am working on the scripts of both movies, and will start work on the script that gets completed first,” he said. Shafi is also expected to co-produce the upcoming spin-off of Dashamoola Damu, starring Suraj Venjaramoodu in the lead role.
