Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies is selected as India's official entry to the Oscars. Upon its release, the film was lauded for its outstanding performance, gripping storyline, and direction. Now, in a recent interview, Aamir Khan, who produced the film, opened up about the significance of winning an Oscar for India. The actor said that the country will go 'ballistic' if they win the prestigious Academy Award.
In a recent interview with BBC News India, Aamir Khan talked about winning an Oscar for Lapataa Ladies. He also said that he would be genuinely happy, besides the fact that he does not take competitions too seriously. Aamir believes that an Oscar win creates a significant opportunity for a film.
"It would create tremendous opportunity for the film to be seen by a lot more people because when a film wins an Oscar or Academy award, then people from around the world want to see what it’s like. So it opens a huge window of opportunity for a larger audience for a film," Aamir said.
Aamir further added how Indians are crazy about films and have been dying to win an Academy Award for an Indian film. He thinks the country would go 'ballistic' as we have been dying to win this award and it has never happened yet. He said, "I think Indians are so film crazy and we have been dying to win an Academy Award for an Indian film which hasn’t happened till now. So the country would go ballistic. They’ll just go mad if we win. So just for the people of our country, I’d be very happy if we win the award."
Earlier, SS Rajamouli's RRR won the Best Original Song and Guneet Monga's Elephant Whisperers won the Best Documentary Short. The shortlist of Oscars 2025 will be announced on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, and fans have a lot of expectations from Laapataa Ladies.
