Aamchi Mumbai: Abhijeet Khandkekar pays tribute to martyrs in new Marathi web series

As the nation observed Martyrs’ Day on January 30, a new Marathi web series, titled Aamchi Mumbai, was released to celebrate the spirit of the Mumbai Police that over the decades have bravely dealt with multiple terror attacks and other security crises in the city. Directed by Deepak Pandey, the new series features popular Marathi actor Abhijeet Khandkekar as the protagonist.

Talking about the theme of the four-episode series, Deepak said, “The web series is not on any specific incident, but the storyline brings forth the different facets of the bravehearts’ life. The aim is to live and salute the experiences and emotions of a martyr when he defended the country against the terrorists.” The maker of the film also said that they have tried to showcase the journey of not just one martyr, but of a braveheart who also has a family life and the responsibility as a son, a father and a husband.

Abhijeet, who earlier appeared in Mazhya Navryachi Bayko and Maziya Priyala Preet Kalena, as well as in the Gulshan Devaiah-starrer web series Duranga - played the protagonist in this show. Talking about his character in the series, Abhijeet said, “For me, it’s an honour to be playing a police officer, who has served the nation and solved so many criminal cases to protect the people of the country.”

Abhijeet also said that although as an actor he is only emoting a police officer onscreen, he feels enormous respect and salutes all the men in uniform who are protecting the nation. “It’s still easy for me as an actor to portray the character on screen, but one can only salute the grit and courage that the real-life heroes showed in situations,” he explained. The actor also thanked the director for giving him the opportunity to play the part.
