After being available for rent for over three months, A Quiet Place: Day One has finally started streaming on Prime Video. Michael Sarnoski wrote and directed the 2024 post-apocalyptic horror film from a story he developed with John Krasinski. As a prequel and spin-off, it is the third film in the A Quiet Place franchise. Lupita Nyong'o portrays a terminally ill woman during the early stages of an alien invasion of New York City. Joining Joseph Quinn in the supporting cast is Djimon Hounsou, who returns from A Quiet Place Part II.

Following its debut at the Tribeca Festival, A Quiet Place: Day One saw its release in June 2024. Critically acclaimed and commercially successful, the film made over $261 million globally.
Lupita Nyong'o's journey with Frodo
Interestingly, in "Sam," the cat that Nyong'o's character has is named "Frodo." The actor's dread of cats led her to ask Sarnoski if they could alter the animal. The filmmaker helped Nyong'o overcome her fear through cat therapy, and by the end of production, the actor had adopted a cat.
When Sarnoski insisted on using a real cat instead of a CGI one, Paramount officials reconsidered and decided that Frodo would be an animated character. Two felines, Schnitzel and Nico, played the role of Frodo. Animal handlers couldn't teach Frodo to arch its back and hiss, a normal response to feeling frightened, so they cut or replaced those parts with CGI to protect the cats.
Supporting cast and character changes
Sarnoski conceived Sam as an attempt to challenge genre norms by focusing on a character who had a different relationship to death and survival. As an actor, Alex Wolff was in Sarnoski's "Pig." Djimon Hounsou made a comeback in A Quiet Place Part II (2020), revealing his identity as "Henri." Despite initially casting Denis O'Hare in an unnamed role, the film ultimately omitted his character.
