Kannada filmmaker Shashank, whose last directorial was Kousalya Supraja Rama with Darling Krishna in the lead, has reunited with the actor for a film called Brat, the title of which was announced on March 28. Turns out, Shashank and Krishna have been working on the film already, and it is about 80% done. The hope, they said, is to complete it shortly and bring it to screens as soon as possible.
Shashank, who addressed male chauvinism in Kousalya Supraja Rama is taking the action route with Brat, in which Krishna’s character Christy embodies the characteristics of the title. The central plot revolves around the conflict between Christy and his father, played by Achyuth Kumar, and the transformational journey the former has eventually.
Speaking at the title launch, Krishna said that the challenge of playing Christy was that he is nothing like him in real life. The film introduces Manisha Kandkur, of Bhale Unnade fame, as the leading lady. Manisha is the daughter of producer Manjunath Kandkur, who is backing the film under his banner, Dolphin Entertainment.
“Shashank sir has not only introduced the likes of Yash, Radhika Pandit and Ajai Rao, among others, but also has strong heroine characters in his films, so it is a privilege to be launched by him,” said the actress. Meanwhile, the filmmaker added that the film is for the youth of today, and will be relatable to 20-30 year olds, focusing on issues they face and how to weather it all. Ramesh Indira and Dragon Manju are the main antagonists.
Brat, added Shashank, is a film that he’s written as part of his objective to never repeat himself. Every film has to be in a different genre and so is this. Music is by Arjun Janya, while cinematography has been handled by Abhilash Kalathi. For the title launch, the filmmaker had got a special song composed by rapper Rahul Ditto. The film will be released in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi.
