Nine years have passed since we saw Imran Khan on the big screen. Today is the anniversary of the release of Katti Batti, which was Imran Khan's final film appearance to date. Kangana Ranaut starred as the female lead in the Nikkhil Advani-directed romantic comedy from 2015. In case you are planning to revisit Katti Batti on OTT, it's available to stream on SonyLIV (OTTplay Premium).
In Katti Batti, in college, architect Madhav "Maddy" Kabra (Imran Khan) meets and falls in love with Kangana Ranaut's Payal Saluja. They start a live-in relationship after college and stay together for five years until Payal abruptly ends things with Maddy. The narrative goes back to their five-year relationship as Maddy desperately tries to find Payal and win her back, despite all his friends telling him to forget about her. At long last, Maddy learns that Payal is terminally ill with cancer. Maddy and Payal reconcile and live happily ever after for four months. When Payal passes away while Maddy is holding her, he vows to always hold this love in his heart and love it again.
Imran has been penning his thoughts regarding every film he acted in over the past few months. Thus, while talking about Katti Batti, the actor wrote that there was a noticeable delay in his film posting. It had been two years since his last appearance, and the pressure to produce a successful film was immense. However, when they started shooting, he had no idea that this would be his final time in front of the camera.
Imran reminisced about their initial visit to Flame University Pune, where they found the staff and students to be so accommodating that they could utilize the entire campus for their filming. The event solidified the chemistry among the actors and was a blast to shoot.
Also, the crew was fantastic; they had so many gifted individuals working together. The skill and apparent ease with which Advani handled the situation amazed him. He also revealed that everyone was amazed by Kangana's commitment to realism as she immersed herself in medical research for her character's sickness. Mithila Palkar's cuteness induces him to regard her as his younger sister. Plus, his onscreen bestie, Abhishek Saha, is now a member of his real-life family.
Regarding the film's premise, Imran wrote that it's easy to write off Katti Batti due to its unrealistic premise: a dying girl arranges a huge falsehood to conceal her illness in order to protect the boy she loves from harm. Does it make sense? Perhaps not. However, Madhav captivated the actor in some way.
In the character's mind, he was a guy who knew how to live life on his own terms, a true romantic. Despite those trying to gaslight him and hide the truth, he loves Payal. He stays true to himself, following his North Star, as the world around him begins to crumble. For the one he loves, he desires to savour every moment.
In the hopes that people would identify with his unwavering convictions, Imran gave Maddy his all. The film's instant box office failure probably hurt his feelings a little.
Even now, fans are awaiting Imran's grand comeback on screen, and they have been constantly saying on social media, "Laut aao, Imran."
