Remember when Aishwarya Rai Bachchan returned to the big screen after a gap of five years? Well, it's been nine years since that happened. The actor graced her presence in the movies, choosing an unconventional role as a lawyer in Jazbaa. The 2015 Sanjay Gupta criminal thriller featured the actor alongside an ensemble cast including Irrfan Khan, Jackie Shroff, Atul Kulkarni, Chandan Roy Sanyal, and Shabana Azmi. In the film, Aishwarya, the protagonist and an attorney, finds herself compelled to defend a nefarious criminal after her daughter Sara Arjun's abduction. Seven Days, a 2007 South Korean film, inspired this adaptation. October 9, 2015, was the release date of the film.

Plot summary of Jazbaa

Famous criminal lawyer Anuradha Verma (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) is also a single mother. She has a perfect record of success. On the school's parent-child race day, Sara Arjun's character, Sanaya, falls victim to abduction. Rather than demanding ransom, the abductor approaches her and informs her that she must defend a convicted criminal in order to regain custody of her daughter. Miyaaz Shaikh (Chandan Roy Sanyal), a convicted felon, will face trial for the rape and murder of a young woman in four days. The kidnapper diligently follows Anuradha to ensure she fulfills their demands. A friend of Anuradha's, Yohan (Irrfan Khan), who is on administrative leave from the police department, offers her assistance. Atul Kulkarni plays the role of a famous public prosecutor who has a longstanding professional rivalry with Anuradha; he receives the case against Miyaaz Shaikh from prominent politician Mahesh Maklai (Jackie Shroff).

A suspenseful thriller plays out.

Aishwarya went all out to prepare for the role of a lawyer in the movie. To perfect the intricacies of her character, she consulted with solicitors and perused copies of past court cases.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's thoughts on her "comeback"

Earlier, during her discussion about making her "comeback" with Jazbaa after five years, Aishwarya expressed that she hasn't felt absent despite not being actively involved in filmmaking, especially given the volume of releases we've had. Despite the fact that many of the women present have experienced similar circumstances, they claim to be oblivious to the passage of time. How quickly time passes is a mystery to them.

The actor didn't really investigate this absence element because she is a working mother. Perhaps she hasn't given much thought to the concept of a return because it's an impossible situation to escape or hide from. She acknowledges that it is the greatest comeback film but insists that she has not seen it.

You can stream Jazbaa on ZEE5 (OTTplay Premium).
