February 2024 was considered a fabulous month for Malayalam cinema as it saw the release of Manjummel Boys, Premalu and Bramayugam, all three of which were path-breaking movies in their own right. February 2025 too looks promising for Malayalam with star-studded movies such as Mammootty-starrer Bazooka, Kunchacko Boban’s Officer on Duty and Anaswara Rajan-Sajin Gopu’s Painkili, among several others, gearing up for release. Here is the list of 9 Malayalam movies set to release in theatres in February 2025
Release date – February 7, 2025
Joju George kicks off the new month with a family drama, Narayaneente Moonnaanmakkal, which also stars Suraj Venjaramoodu and Alencier Lopez. The film is set to revolve around the three brothers mentioned in the title, played by these lead actors. The film, written and directed by debutant Sharan Venugopal, was earlier slated to release in January 2025 but was postponed.

Mammootty and Gautham Vasudev Menon, who started 2025 with Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse, are back together the very next month for Bazooka. The Deeno Dennis directorial will feature the Malayalam megastar and popular Tamil filmmaker-actor in the lead roles. Bazooka, a game thriller, is expected to have Mammootty in his suave avatar.

Jo and Jo director Arun D Jose has once again turned to a bunch of young talents for his next movie titled Bromance. Arjun Ashokan stars in the film along with Mathew Thomas and Mahima Nambiar of RDX fame. Sangeeth Prathap and Shyam Mohan, both of whom made a name with Premalu, are also on the cast, raising the expectations for a fun movie. Kalabhavan Shajohn and Binu Pappu are also part of the movie.

Antony Varghese Pepe, who has been part of action-packed movies such as RDX and Kondal, returns to the genre with Daveed. Govind Vishnu’s film revolves around the boxer Ashiq Abu, with the teaser promising the ultimate showdown between Pepe and Mo Ismail’s characters in the boxing ring. Lijomol Jose, Vijayaraghavan, and Saiju Kurup are also part of the stellar cast.

Not just the amusing title of Painkili, Sreejith Babu brings in interesting casting choices with Anaswara Rajan and Sajin Gopu. What roles would Rekha Pathrose from Rekhachithram and Ranganna’s trusted Amban from Aavesham play in this movie? The plot is very much under wraps, but the leading lady has been teasing us about the romance of Painkili in her Insta posts, hinting at a love story.

Kunchacko Boban dons the police uniform for Office on Duty, which also stars Priyamani. Jithu Ashraf, who has assisted on films such as Action Hero Biju and Ela Veezha Poonchira, marks his directorial debut with this movie, touted to be a cop thriller. Vishak Nair and Jagadish also play key characters in the film.

After the massive success of Marco, Unni Mukundan is set to bring a comedy-drama to the silver screens with Get Set Baby. Nikhila Vimal also joins as the female lead in the film, which revolves around the challenges faced by an IVF specialist. It would be interesting to note how the audience would respond to the comedy-drama movie, which comes close on the heels of violent actioner Marco which elevated Unni Mukundan to the action superstar stature.

Among the big-budget and star-powered films comes Thadavu, a critically acclaimed film. Despite winning two Kerala State Awards for Best Actress and Best Debut Director (Fazil), Thadavu hardly garnered any attention. It needs to be noted that Thadavu's Beena R Chandran shared the accolades for Best Actress along with Urvashi, whose performance in Ullozhukku was lauded by critics and audiences, alike.

Soubin Shahir, who was last seen in the recently released Basil Joseph-starrer Pravinkoodu Shappu, teams up with Namitha Pramod for Machante Maalakha. The poster and teaser suggest that a quirky yet charming story is in the offering. Dileesh Pothan, Dhyan Sreenivasan and Shanthi Krishna play key roles in the film, directed by Boban Samuel.
