Ranveer Singh’s 83 set to be screened at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London

One of Ranveer Singh’s most remarkable performances - writer-director Kabir Khan’s biographical sports drama film, 83, which was inspired by the legendary sportsman Kapil Dev-led historic victory of India’s national cricket team at the 1983 Cricket World Cup, is poised to reach a milestone! There will be a special screening of the 2021 film in London soon. 

Apart from from Ranveer (who played Kapil in 83), the movie’s ensemble cast also featured Deepika Padukone, Jiiva, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Adinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa and R Badree. It was produced by Deepika, Kabir,, Vishnu Vardhan Induri, Sajid Nadiadwala and Reliance Entertainment.

Although the film didn’t perform as expected at the box office, the news has surfaced that 83 will be showcased at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, on July 15 and 16. According to reports, there will be two shows of the movie at the venue - at 11am and 4pm.

When asked if it was the makers’ proposal to screen 83 at the heritage cricket ground in the UK, Kabir told Bollywood Hungama, “No. Surprisingly, the Lord’s management reached out to us. They proposed the idea since they felt that 83 is an iconic film, whose final was shot at Lord’s. It’ll be like a nice two-day picnic. There’ll be Indian food available to the patrons.”

Adding to that, the filmmaker said, “I guess, it’s a trend nowadays to show films in places where it has been filmed. For instance, there have been screenings of The Shawshank Redemption (1994) in prisons.”

So, is Ranveer and the other actors of the film going to attend the screening? “I am not sure,” Kabir said, adding “It all depends on their dates and whether they are available. But I’ll be there along with Kapil Dev and Balwinder Singh Sandhu. After the screening, we’ll interact with viewers and answer their queries.”
