83 release date: When and where to watch Ranveer Singh-led sports drama

The sports drama revolves around the story of the Indian cricket team’s first World Cup victory in 1983, against all odds. Still viewed as an underdog at the time, the team had surprised both fans and rivals alike when they had emerged victorious under the captaincy of cricketing legend Kapil Dev. The final match was between India and West Indies.

Who are the cast and crew behind 83?

Ranveer Singh leads the cast and essays the role of Dev, who captained the Indian team. Deepika Padukone plays Dev’s wife, Romi Dev. This will be the actor-couple’s fifth film together, after Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Finding Fanny, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat.

In addition, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem,Harrdy Sandhu, Ammy Virk,Pankaj Tripathi,Boman Irani, Nishant Dahiya, Sahil Khattar, Chirag Patil and Dinker Sharma portray the roles of Sunil Gavaskar,Krishnamachari Srikkanth,Mohinder Amarnath, Madan Lal,Balwinder Sandhu,PR Man Singh, Farokh Engineer,Roger Binny, Syed Kirmani, Sandeep Patil and Kirti Azad respectively.

The film is directed by Kabir Khan, known for his work on films such as Ek Tha Tiger and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. 83 is produced by Khan along with Padukone, Vishnuvardhan Induri, Sajid Nadiadwala under the banners of Reliance Entertainment and 83 Film Ltd.

83 will be released in theatres on December 24. The OTT rights to the film have reportedly been bagged by Netflix, but a digital release date is yet to be announced.
