Director MS Sripathy's upcoming film, 800 is a biopic on ace Sri Lankan cricketer Muthiah Muralidaran. The film, which is gearing up to hit screens tomorrow (October 6), stars Madhurr Mittal in the lead of Slumdog Millionaire fame. Here's all you need to know about the film.

A power-packed trailer
The trailer depicts the uphill journey of one of the legendary bowlers. It also throws light on the hurdles faced by the Hill Country Tamil community in Kandy, Sri Lanka and how as an aspiring cricketer, Muttiah worked hard to battle against the discrimination and find a place for himself in the global arena. The film will also delve into his 'controversial' bowling action, which was labelled as 'chucking' and provide a glimpse of the civil war which rattled the island nation.

The Vijay Sethupathi quagmire
It is a common knowledge that Vijay Sethupathi was the first choice to play the bowling legend. The team had dropped a first-look poster which had VSP bearing a striking resemblance to the cricketer. However, the actor was forced to leave the film, after pressure from different political outfits and sections of the public. The reason being stated was that Muttiah had 'betrayed Tamils' as he 'supported the killing of Tamils'.

The ace spinner requested Vijay Sethupathi to not put his acting career on line for him. Vijay Sethupathi responded with, 'Nanri, Vanakkam' and ended his association with the film.

Behind the scenes
The trailer of the film was released by the Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and former Sri Lankan all-rounder Sanath Jayasuriya. Muralidharan had stated that he was glad that the duo had come forward for the launch.

Technical crew
The star cast includes Nassar and Mahima Nambiar. Ghibran has scored the music for the biopic, which has cinematography by RD Rajasekar and editing by Praveen KL.

An October 2023 Release
800, bankrolled by Movie Train Motion Pictures, is all set to hit screens on October 6. The film, which has been shot in Tamil, will be released in Telugu, English and Hindi as well. 800 will clash with Trisha's The Road, Vijay Antony's Raththam, Vikram Prabhu's Irugapatru and Shot Bot Three. The OTT partner for the film is yet to be announced.
