For Kiranraj K, the recent National Film Awards presentation ceremony turned out to be special for more than one reason. While his primary reason for being part of the occasion was to receive the award for 777 Charlie, which was adjudged 'Best Kannada Film', the young filmmaker also happened to run into one of his childhood favourites, Malayalam actor Indrans. Kiranraj K would seize the opportunity of being seated close to the 'Home' actor and click a selfie for himself and for posterity.

Earlier today, he took to social media to share that very picture and also pen a heartwarming note to reveal just how much he admires Indrans. "When I was a kid, it didn't matter who the hero of the movie was; if @actorindrans was in it, I was always in front of the television," he wrote at the beginning of the note, before going on to praise the senior performer for the innocence he imbued his performances with.

"Last year, I watched his movie "Home," where he played the role of a middle-class father. I can still recall his innocent smile in the movie, and I cried like a baby while watching it. His character in the movie reminded me of my father. A few days ago, he received the national award for his brilliant performance in "Home." I had the privilege of witnessing his innocent smile as he received the award from the President. It was my pleasure to meet him and have the opportunity to take a selfie with him. You can see that same innocent smile on his face," wrote Kiranraj K.

K. Surendran, who assumed the stage name Indrans, began his journey in cinema in 1981 before foraying into acting a few years later. His breakthrough film as a comic actor came in 1994 in the form of CID Unnikrishnan B.A., BEd and some of his best credits include Malappuram Haji Mahanaya Joji, Manathe Kottaram, Aniyan Bava Chetan Bava, Punjabi House and others. Films like Kathavasheshan, Rahasya Police, Pottas Bomb and others revealed the more "serious" actor in him.

Although Kiranraj made the Kannada Film Industry his home, the filmmaker's growing-up years in Kumbadaje, Kerala, have evidently left a strong impression on him. He has revealed in his previous conversations that Malayalam cinema was part of his creative diet as much as Kannada cinema was (if not more) and the sensibilities & nuances of the former are quite apparent in his work.

777 Charlie was Kiranraj K's debut outing on which he spent nearly 5 five years. Having cast a different actor for the lead role initially, he would eventually turn to Rakshit Shetty who also produced the film under his home banner of Paramvah Studios. Both Rakshit and Kiranraj attended the National Film Awards ceremony to receive the honour from India's President Droupadi Murmu.
