While a section of viewers are busy predicting how this week’s releases - Jailer, Bholaa Shankar, Ustaad - would fare at the box office, the real surprise in the recent weeks has been performance of re-released hits in theatres across the globe. Suriya’s 2008 blockbuster Surya S/O Krishnan joined the ever-growing list of Telugu films that has ensured profits for buyers after its re-release last week.
Businessman, Mahesh Babu’s 2012 hit, which released worldwide on the star’s birthday today, is also set to open big at the ticket window. That’s not all, the coming weeks will have re-released films outnumbering the newer releases, going by the trend. Raghuvaran B Tech, 7/G Brindavan Colony, Yogi, Gudumba Shankar, Sivaji, Venky will also be making a splash at the theatres shortly.
Raghuvaran B Tech, the dubbed version of Dhanush’s Velai Illa Pattadhari, directed by R Velraj, will be out on August 18, locking horns with Yogi, the emotional action drama starring Prabhas, Nayanthara, directed by VV Vinayak. Pawan Kalyan-Meera Jasmine starrer Gudumba Shankar will be out on September 1 on the eve of the star-politician’s birthday.
7/G Brindavan Colony is likely hit screens on August 25, though the official date hasn’t been announced yet. Rajinikanth’s blockbuster with Shankar will have a grand re-release commemorating the star’s birthday in December, followed by Venky, the much-celebrated Sreenu Vaitla comedy starring Ravi Teja, Sneha, that’ll be out in the last week of the same month.
That’s not all, noted producer Bandla Ganesh is also planning to re-release Pawan Kalyan’s super hit Gabbar Singh on September 2, though the star’s fans are not happy about its clash with Gudumba Shankar in the same weekend. Besides the monetary prospect, it’s indeed a healthy trend for a newer generation of viewers to be reintroduced to hit films of a different era.
