One of the most prestigious film award ceremonies in India to recognise the best films in Indian cinema is the National Film Awards. This evening, August 24, a news conference is conducted in New Delhi to announce the 69th National Film Awards winners. The most prestigious honour, the National Film Awards, are presented yearly to recognise the best filmmakers in the nation. The National Film Awards aim to encourage the production of films of aesthetic and technical excellence and social relevance, according to the Directorate of Film Festivals of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Bollywood and regional films will square off in this hotly anticipated event.
Ketan Mehta is the Chairperson for the feature film jury. There are 31 categories in feature film category, which includes submission of 280 feature films in 28 languages.
69th National Awards Winners Complete List:
Best Hindi Film award: Vicky Kaushal starrer Sardar Uddham Singh, directed by Shoojit Sircar and produced by Shoojit Sircar, Ronnie Lahiri, Sheel Kumar.
Best Malayalam Film award winner: Home, directed by Rojin Thomas and starring Indrans, Sreenath Bhasi, Naslen K. Gafoor, Deepa Thomas, Manju Pillai, Johny Antony and Kainakary Thankaraj.
Best Gujarati Film award winner: Chello Show, directed by Pan Nalin. It stars Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Raval and Paresh Mehta.
Best Kannada Film award winner: 777 Charlie, written and directed by Kiranraj K. and produced by Paramvah Studios. The film stars Charlie, a labrador dog and Rakshit Shetty.
Best Telugu Film award winner: Upena, written and directed by Buchi Babu Sana. The film stars debutants Panja Vaisshnav Tej and Krithi Shetty alongside Vijay Sethupathi in a prominent role.
Best Tamil Film award winner: Kadaisi Vivasayi, written, directed and produced by M. Manikandan. The film stars an 85-year-old farmer named Nallandi and features Vijay Sethupathi and Yogi Babu in supporting roles.
SS Rajamouli's historical film RRR starring Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt bagged National Awards for Best Action Direction, Choreography and Special Effects.
Allu Arjun wins the Best Actor for the film Pushpa, while Alia Bhatt and Kriti Sanon shared the award for Best Actress for the film Gangubai Kathiawadi and Mimi. While Pallavi Joshi (The Kashmir Files) and Pankaj Tripathi (Mimi) wins the Best Supporting Actors. Sanjay Leela Bhansali bags the Best Editor for the film Gangubai Kathiawadi. The Best Music Director award winner becomes Devi Sri Prasad for the film Pushpa, starring Allu Arjun in the lead role. Alia Bhatt's Gangubai Kathiawadi also bags the best makeup-artist award while Vicky Kaushal's Sardar Udham Singh wins the best Cinematography and Audiography besides Costume Designing and Production Designing.
R Madhavan's Rocketry: The Nambi Effect wins the best film at the 69th National Awards.
Meanwhile, Soorarai Pottru shared the Best Actor Award at the 68th National Film Awards last year with Ajay Devgn for Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Suriya for Soorarai Pottru. In the meantime, Manoj Muntashir had taken home the prize for Saina's best lyrics.
