It is now official: Miley Cyrus has won a Grammy. The event began with the singer accepting her trophy from Mariah Carey for best pop solo performance of her song Flowers, which she had performed earlier in the evening. After nearly two decades in the business, Cyrus emphasised the significance of her first Grammy awards.
In her winning speech, while nodding towards Carey, she started by saying, "This M.C. is going to stand by this M.C. because this is just too iconic. Oh my god, I just got stuck in the rain and traffic and thought I was going to miss this moment. And I could have missed the award—that's fine—but not Mariah Carey! I just saw you at the Hollywood Bowl. It was everything."
With numerous nominations in important categories like record, song, and album of the year, Cyrus's most recent full-length effort, Endless Summer Vacation, is up for six Grammys this year. There have been a total of eight nominations for Cyrus, including this year's. She has now had two albums, Endless Summer Vacation and A Beautiful Mess, nominated for best pop vocal album. The singer also received more nominations this year than in any previous iteration.

Meanwhile, Cyrus had an impromptu shout-out to make during Sunday night's 2024 Grammys performance. She yelled out, "I just won my first Grammy!" while singing Flowers at the awards. The singer had just ascended the stage moments before accepting her first-ever Grammy for best pop solo performance.
The singer, dressed in a silver sequence dress, showcased her choreography while singing the popular song instead of using dancers as a backing act. Midway through the song, Cyrus questioned the audience's lack of participation, asking, "Why are you acting like you don't know this song?" This is an excellent question, considering the song's meteoric rise to fame after its January 2023 release.
Oprah, Taylor Swift, and John Legend were among the famous faces in the crowd that got up and danced and sang along with the artist.
Before she ever stepped onto the platform, Cyrus had spoken deeply about the song and the significance of her listeners' reactions to it. With Flowers, she wrote without preconceived notions, which she believes contributed to the song's enchantment. She added that while achievements and statistics may thrill her, she is well aware that they do not constitute her identity.
Her joy is so overwhelming that it brings tears to her eyes whenever she sees others dancing to Flowers in the same manner as herself. Since the song's premiere, the singer hadn't sung it on television until her Grammy performance. The song remained at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks in a row after its debut, during which time it went popular online.
