Filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee's movie Bawarchi was a musical comedy that was released in cinemas on July 7, 1972. Written by Tapan Sinha, the film starred late Rajesh Khanna and Jaya Bachchan in the lead roles. Cut to today, the film has completed 52 years since its theatrical release. Once in an interview, Khanna said he did exactly the opposite of what director Hrishikesh made him do in the film Anand. He had mentioned that the filmmaker allowed him to interpret the role and perform the way he wanted to. 

Bawarchi to be remade?

Meanwhile, director Ansuhree Mehta will be helming the remake of the much-loved 1972 film Bawarchi. In a statement to IANS, Anushree revealed her business partners Abir Sengupta and Sameer Raj Sippy felt she should write and direct Bawarchi's remake.

"They were convinced that I would be able to tell the story in a manner which would make them proud. We were in sync with our vision and I whole-heartedly agreed to come on board as the writer-director," revealed Mehta.

She further mentioned, "The idea of retelling a film is to adapt it, according to the current times and make it more relatable to the world we live in today—while keeping the soul and purpose of the original intact."
