It's been five years since Trisha and Vijay Sethupathi's romantic drama 96 hit screens. The film is considered a milestone in both their careers.

Trisha recently went down the memory lane and thanked the film's director Prem Kumar, for the memorable role of Jaanu. Taking to her social media handle, Trisha wrote, "5 glorious years Thank you Prem and to my people who made Jaanu a household name #5YearsOf96 (sic)."  Here are five reasons to watch the film.

The heartwarming story
The film tells an emotionally resonant love story that transcends time and distance. One of the highlights was the way it delved into the complexities of first love and the nostalgia associated with it. The film touched the hearts of all those who have experienced lost love.

The performances of the lead cast
This was the first time that Trisha and Vijay Sethupathi teamed up for a film and the duo went on to deliver stellar performances that breathed life into their characters, so much so that Jaanu and Raam became household names. Their onscreen chemistry was an instant hit. Trisha also set a style statement in her yellow kurti and blue dupatta, which went on to become a rage among young women.

School reunion
Since a significant part of the film is set during a high school reunion, where the protagonists reconnect after two decades, it took the audience on a trip down memory lane.

Govind Vasantha's music
This was a breakout album for music composer Govind Vasantha, who went on to become a notable name in the industry after the film. The mellifluous songs and background score complemented the narrative, and the breathtaking visuals captured by cinematographer Mahendiran Jayaraju, made for a visual treat.

The film's direction
The film marked the debut of cinematographer-turned-director C Prem Kumar. His filmmaking beautifully captured love and longing. 96 was later remade in Telugu as Jaanu by the same director.
