While Ryan Reynolds has been around for a long time and produced work that’s been exemplary, some of his projects were lacking. However, due to a stellar cast, over the top action sequences, and a few other things that proved lucky, these movies somehow survived. Here are 5 movies of Ryan Reynolds that could have been better.
Red Notice (Netflix)
With a cast ensemble of Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds, you would think the film to be an excellent one. Dwayne Johnson plays the role of an FBI agent who teams up with Ryan Reynolds, an infamous art thief, to catch a bigger fish, a notorious criminal played by Gal Gadot. Ryan’s usual unapologetic humour seems lost in Red Notice, yet the sequels to the movie are already in the works.
Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard (Lionsgate Play, Google Play Movies, Apple iTunes)
While we will not talk about Hitman’s Bodyguard, its sequel, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, was like how almost all sequels go. The cast consisting of actors like Salma Hayek, Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman and Antonio Banderas, along with Ryan Reynolds, was one to look forward to. Yet, the movie seemed just like a repetition of conventional genres and received very poor ratings.
Blade: Trinity (Vi Movies & TV)
1998’s Blade, based on Marvel Comic’s The Tomb of Dracula’s character Blade, made a mark in Hollywood with its cinematography and was a commercial success. This success spawned the sequels, Blade 2 and Blade: Trinity. Ryan features as Hannibal King in the Trinity film. However, the film was too loud and lacked a convincing narrative, perhaps merely surviving on the overall success of the franchise.
6 Underground (Netflix)
An American billionaire fakes his death to form a vigilante squad and take down criminals and terrorists that no one else can kill. The film was directed by the Transformer-series and Armageddon director Michael Bay which created enough hype. Unfortunately, the movie’s sequel was cancelled because of the mixed reviews. Spoiler alert! The actions scenes in this thriller just never end.
Free Guy (Disney+ Hotstar, Google Play Movies, Apple iTunes)
We know Ryan Reynolds as someone constantly breaking the fourth wall and this clever referencing to pop culture worked well with Deadpool. The same can’t be said for Free Guy. Guy is an NPC (non-playing character) is an online open RPG (role-playing game). Through a series of events, Guy stands out as a worldwide sensation in the game. Overused references failed to click with the audiences the way they were perhaps intended too. Yet, the movie was a huge success and ready for a sequel.
Ryan Reynold’s latest release, ‘The Adam Project,’ is out on Netflix!
