Docuseries can be quite gripping as they give us glimpses into little-known aspects of the lives of celebrities and historical figures. If you’ve watched and enjoyed The Andy Warhol Diaries, there’s a sea of docuseries you can stream across the web. Here are 5 such docuseries that you can stream on Netflix.
Five Came Back
This 3-part series is based on Mark Harris’s book, Five Came Back: A Story of Hollywood and the Second World War. Modern-day directors Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Guillermo del Toro, Paul Greengrass and Lawrence Kasdan each discuss the legacies of the earlier directors William Wyler, John Huston, Frank Capra, John Ford and George Stevens. Narrated by Meryl Streep, the series talks about how the war and movie directors shaped each other.
Chef’s Table
Among the first original Netflix series is David Gelb’s Chef’s Table. Elite chefs like Massimo Bottura, Dominique Crenn, and Dan Barber permit viewers to take a look into their kitchen while telling their life stories. You can stream all 6 seasons on Netflix, with each episode revolving around one chef, their restaurants and their success stories. You just might get inspired to pursue your culinary dreams.
Wormwood
Wormwood is a biological warfare drama series based on the life of scientist Frank Olson and his controversial death. While some believe it to be a tragic accident, the US government admitted it was most likely a suicide due to LSD. Frank’s son, Eric Olson believes that his father’s involvement with illegal human experimentation in Project MKUltra got him murdered. Interviews, archival footage and various theories of Frank’s death are included in this 6-part miniseries.
Cheer
When you think about cheerleading, you might believe it to be popular girls cheering for their high school sports team. However, that does not even come close to what cheerleading is about. It is a cut-throat billion-dollar industry of sport itself. Cheer follows the awe-inspiring rigour behind the sport and how a college team makes its way to the national championship.
The Last Dance
The Last Dance is a 10-part series that gives you an insider look at the famed American basketball team Chicago Bulls during the late 90s. At the center of the series is Michael Jordan and the episodes include exclusive footage from the film crew that had intimate access to the team. The series won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series at the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards.
