Kannada thrillers to watch on Zee5

Ghost

Directed by MG Srinivasan, the action heist thriller had Century Star Shivarajkumar in three distinct avatars. The main plot of the film revolves around a heist in a prison. The film brought Malayalam-Tamil Jayaram to Kannada cinema as a police officer trying to negotiate with the gangster who has held the prisoners of one block hostage.

Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana

Raj B Shetty directed and played one of the leads in this thriller about two gangsters – one the don and the other his trusted right-hand man – and a cop who is determined to root both of them out. Raj was joined by Rishab Shetty and Gopalkrishna Deshpande in this film.

Vikrant Rona

Kiccha Sudeep played the title character, an inspector who lands up at the Kamarottu police station and investigates the mysterious case of young children going missing in that village. Vikrant Rona, as it turns out, has a personal agenda in cracking this case. Directed by Anup Bhandari, the film also stars Nirup Bhandari and Neetha Ashok, among others.

Shivaji Surathkal

Shivaji Surathkal: Ranagiri Rahasya is the first installment in the detective franchise that director Akash Srivatsa and actor Ramesh Aravind kickstarted. Ranagiri Rahasya was pitched as case no. 101, in keeping with the fact that it was Ramesh’s 101st film. The story is set in a resort, where Shivaji Surathkal has been called in to investigate the death of the Home Minister’s son while also dealing with personal trauma.

Mufti

Director Narthan’s film, with Shivarajkumar and Sriimurali in the lead, has the latter playing an undercover cop who is sent to infiltrate the former’s gang. Shivarajkumar is Bhairathi Ranagal, a dreaded gangster, who is revered in his village. From earning Bhairathi Ranagal’s trust to eventually having him surrender to the police and be taken into custody, Sriimurali as Gana has a big task at hand. Shivarajkumar is currently working on the prequel and sequel to Mufti, which will be in theatres on August 15, so it would make sense to revisit it sometime soon.
