Kangana Ranaut has built quite a reputation as controversy’s favourite child. The Bollywood diva has unleashed her wrath on the who’s who of Bollywood, making enemies at every turn. As Kangana gears up for the release of her big OTT debut Lock-Upp on MX Player and Alt Balaji, here are some of the controversies she’s courted on her path to stardom.
Kangana vs The Roshans
In 2016, Kangana opened up about her affair with Hrithik Roshan. She made tall claims stating the actor made advances at her during the shoot of Krrish 3. The entire Roshan clan came to Hrithik’s defence, declaring the actress suffered from Asperger’s syndrome. The email row following the incident was equal parts ridiculous and worrying. While Kangana trashed this statement, netizens considered her accusations a publicity stunt to promote her film Tanu Weds Manu Returns.

Kangana vs Karan Johar
In 2017, Kangana appeared on Koffee with Karan alongside co-star Saif Ali Khan to promote their movie Rangoon. All was going well until the rapid-fire round when Kangana called out Karan for being the “stereotypical Bollywood biggie” and “the flag-bearer of nepotism”. She even accused Karan of being unnecessarily rude towards her at the beginning of her career. The wounds inflicted on the show remain unhealed even today.

Kangana vs Justin Rao
In 2019, during the promotions of Judgemental Hai Kya, Kangana blasted journalist Justin Rao and accused him of running a smear campaign against her. This caused Justin to snap back at her and call her out for her “disrespectful behaviour”. But in a true Kangana style, she refused to apologise to him at all.

Kangana has repeatedly taken jabs at fellow actresses Tapsee Pannu and Swara Bhaskar, calling them B-grade actresses and her “sasti copies” (cheap imitations). She’s regularly hurled derogatory comments towards Deepika Padukone, especially in the wake of her work towards the betterment of mental health. From calling Urmila Matondkar a soft-porn star to labelling Alia Bhatt a papa ki pari, she’s done it all.
Kangana vs Mahesh Bhatt
Kangana made her Bollywood debut with the 2006 Mahesh Bhatt produced romantic thriller Gangster. Despite getting her big break with a film from the Bhatt camp, Kangana has not spared the ace director as well. In the aftermath of the tragic suicide of Sushant Singh Rajput, Kangana claimed that Bhatt had hurled his footwear at her, called her mad and insulted her in front of many people.
