Satya, starring Manoj Bajpayee, Urmila Matondkar and J. D. Chakravarthy, marked 25 years of its release on, Monday, July 3, 2023. To celebrate the legacy of one of the finest films in Bollywood, OTTplay recently created a documentary on the making of Ram Gopal Varma's genre-defining movie.

The latest documentary begins with a quote by Bhiku Mhatre of Satya aka Bajpayee, who mentions that this film has made people understand what this city (Mumbai) was like during the 90s.

Talking about how he landed the role in Satya, Bajpayee informs that he went to meet Varma for a role in Daud (1997), who happened to know that the actor essayed Paan Singh Tomar in Bandit Queen (1994) and he loved his performance in the biographical drama film. "He loved the film so much that he wanted to make a film on Mumbai Mafia, which would be as good as Bandit Queen," The Family Man actor adds.

Moving on, the documentary witnesses Chakravarthy unveiling how much Varma was unsatisfied with his other venture Daud at that time, which made the filmmaker curious to start making Satya, much before the release of the Urmila Matondkar and Sanjay Dutt starrer.

Anurag Kashyap enters the montage and shares that he came to know that Varma is looking for young writers through Bajpayee. Meanwhile, talking about his entry into the project, Saurabh Shukla reveals that he actually wanted to act in Satya, however, the filmmaker asked him to pen his film as well.

Multiple cast and makers appear in the latest documentary and share their experiences of coming together and making this finest film. The OTTplay's documentary titled Satya: Ab Tak Pachchees further delves deeper to unveil how the crime-thriller flick went on to become a cult classic in Bollywood.
