Kya Kehna, a super hit at Box Office India in 2000, went on to become one of 2000's highest-grossing Bollywood films. People referred to it as a sleeper hit due to its unexpected success.

Preity Zinta's perspective

Nearly 24 years ago, during the promotions for Kya Kehna, when Preity was asked about the film, she stated in an interview that it was a different film that people should see with their whole family. One won't see this kind of film in theatres very often, as the storyline is different. It focuses on female characters, and the film's protagonist, a girl named Priya, is someone she portrays.

This film highlights issues affecting women in society and places a societal concern at its heart. This matters to the character on a personal level, and for her family, it's a problem. The film's director, Kundan Shah, has taken the problem home with him, and here they have the tale of a lovely family.
