The Malayalam film industry is making history with the success of the latest movie 2018. Not only has it been a huge hit in Kerala, but it has also created a buzz in other parts of the country, especially in Karnataka. With many companies declaring a holiday for voters in Karnataka, 2018 has received a big boost at the box office.
Despite minimal promotion, good word of mouth has helped it become a hit at the box office. All shows in Bengaluru are going full today. The movie-buffs are seemingly taking advantage of the holiday to watch 2018, which has garnered glowing reviews both from critics and audiences alike. The movie has set the box office on fire in Kerala and is also doing well in Tamil Nadu.
In Bengaluru, the movie was released on about 30 screens last week. Due to the positive reviews , there are now over 100 shows for the movie in Bengaluru alone. "#2018Movie - Highest grossing movie today at Karnataka Box office. What a feat for a Malayalam movie despite stiff competition and many new releases," tweeted Karnataka Talkies.
On Wednesday, the number of shows for the movie was 125, and it's expected to grow even further. If 2018 continues to perform well at the box office, it may end up as the biggest Malayalam earner in Karnataka. This success is a big boost for the Malayalam film industry, which has been making strides in recent years.
The movie, written and directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, stars Tovino Thomas, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Aparna Balamurali, Kalaiyarasan, Narain, Lal, Indrans and Aju Varghese.
The disaster movie is inspired by the devastating floods that wreaked havoc on Kerala in 2018. And Jude has done a fantastic job of recreating the state that was submerged in water due to torrential rains.
