The 2004 super hit Tamil film Ghilli has made a return to big screens, as the film completed 20 years since it was first released. Starring actors Vijay and Trisha in the lead role, Ghilli is directed by Dharani and is remake of Telugu film Okkadu, which starred Mahesh Babu and Bhoomika Chawla in the lead roles. Ghilli was a commercial blockbuster and still considered one of the gems in Vijay and Trisha's filmography. With the film once again gracing the big screens, scores of netizens took to social media to share their fervour for the cult classic.
After 20 years since its first release, Ghilli is back in theatres. With selected screens in India and overseas playing the film, social media is full of audiences celebrating the film once again. Scores of fans from France, Ireland, and other countries also shared videos from theatres, with audiences enjoying the film like it's the first time.
Ghilli is about a man named Velu who comes to a village and witnesses a woman named Dhanalakshmi (Trisha) being harassed by local thug Muthupandi (Prakash Raj) into marrying him. The rest of the film deals with how Velu saved her from Muthupandi and takes her to Chennai while confronting the thug who comes in search of them to the city. The film received thunderous reception at the time of its release, with the lead cast’s performances being hailed. Prakash Raj’s portrayal of Muthupandi reached a cult status that his dialogue “Chellam, I love you” is still relevant in today’s times.

Ghilli is produced by AM Rathnam and has songs scored by Vidyasagar. One of the plus points of Ghilli were the songs, with tracks like Arjunaru Villu, Apadi Podhu becoming chartbusters. The songs are till date considered the best of Vijay's and the film also was appreciated for the onscreen chemistry of Vijay and Trisha.
