Vidhu Vinod Chopra's '12th Fail' opened in theatres to unanimously positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. Following this successful run at the box office, the film is now set to make its much-awaited OTT debut. '12th Fail' will be streaming on Disney+ Hotstar on 29th December.
With Zee Studios distributing the film, it was speculated that '12th Fail' would land on the Zee5 platform for its OTT run. The folks at Disney+ Hotstar, however, dropped a teaser a short while ago to emphatically announce that they would be hosting the film.
What is '12th Fail' about?
Billed as a biographical drama, the film is centred around young Manoj Kumar Sharma's gruelling pursuit to crack what is considered to be India's toughest exam, UPSC. The film traces his extraordinary journey from being a 12th Fail to moving to New Delhi to eventually becoming a high-ranking IPS officer, while navigating the riddled education system. Vidhu Vinod Chopra's film also sheds light on Manoj's choice to get to the pinnacle with honesty in his heart and how he overcomes the many hurdles along the way with tenacity and resilience.
'12th Fail' termed a "sleeper hit"
Having arrived in cinemas on 27 October 2023, '12th Fail' began its box office journey on a modest note but the encouraging word-of-mouth publicity allowed the film to quickly gain traction. Despite the stiff competition all around, the film held its own and persevered to collect close to Rs. 65 crores, against a budget of Rs. 20 crores. As a result, '12th Fail' has been termed a "sleeper hit" for its slow-yet-steady performance.
Many critics hailed the film as one of the best of the year with Vikrant Massey's portrayal receiving a lot of praise.
