Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail, a biographical drama about the real-life story of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who overcame extreme poverty to become an Indian Police Service officer, had a fairly good run at the box office, and got rave reviews too. The film had been dubbed in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam too at the time, and yet, now that it is on OTT, it is available with Hindi audio only. In Karnataka, for instance, KRG Studios, which has been at the forefront of providing quality Kannada-dubbing for other language films distributed by them, had released the Kannada version of 12th Fail, so it surprised audiences, when that version did not make it to OTT.

Netizens have been urging the makers and distributor Karthik Gowda of KRG Studios to ensure the Kannada-dubbed version also makes it to Disney+ Hotstar. “12th fail is good and inspirational movie for lot young audiences in Karnataka, which is should be reached to Kannada audience” wrote Prasad Karoshi, while Krishna Kichchu and others wondered why the film was not available with Kannada audio. Disney+ Hotstar is known to consistently present content with multiple audio options, including Kannada. The Kannada dubbing of the film had got a lot of praise, considering that Rathnan Prapancha director Rohit Padaki had supervised the same. In the past, KRG Studios’ work on the dubbing of Adipurush had also been widely lauded.

12th Fail, led by Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankar, follows the former’s character Manoj Kumar Sharma, as he goes from astute poverty and academic failure to overcoming odds and clearing the UPSC exam, despite multiple attempts, to eventually make it to the Indian Police Service (IPS). Kantara maker Rishab Shetty was among the many who applauded Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s film and its inspiring message- to not lose hope in the face of adversity and the importance of starting afresh.
