Vikrant Massey starrer 12th Fail released in cinemas today. The film directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra explores the ups and downs of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who fails his 12th exam yet passes the UPSC exam.

In an interview with OTTplay, Vikrant discusses the preparation work he did for the movie, which is based on a true tale. He also discusses how he disproved the notion held by some that he was unable to play a wide range of roles.

"There are people who say, even earlier that because you have played a "good boy" earlier so you won't be able to play a negative character. It was the 80s and 70s era when if the character of the villain was played by a hero then the audience would not accept him but I think we have gone beyond those times. It totally depends on the responsibility which is bestowed upon me via people but I am really looking forward to 12th Fail. Because it is a common man story and it is made for a common man and they are incredibly powerful."

Vikrant reveals real-life Manoj's reaction to the 12th Fail

When asked if he took some tips or training from the real-life Manoj Kumar Sharma, Vikrant said, "I took a lot of tips from him. He only used to have time on weekends and us samay mai unka bahot dimag khaya karta tha. Vinod sir made sure that I was doing that exercise because I was portraying someone real, someone who is living in flesh and blood. so we want to justify his character. But he was very kind, He never complained, he always patted my shoulder."
