Due to a fire breaking out in an apartment complex, some couples move to their friend’s house. They decide to play a game of revealing the lies that they have told their partners at a party one evening. Some tell the truth, while others lie. Thus, the house becomes a house of lies. This is the plot of 1001 Nunakal, helmed by Thamar KV, which seems influenced by films like Perfect Strangers, Nothing to Hide in It, and the recent Malayalam film, 12th Man. The movie is touted as a gripping drama predominantly set in a single location.
1001 Nunakal has been screened at the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) in December 2022, where it was well received. Scripted by Thamar himself, the film will soon be available to stream on SonyLIV.
According to Thamar, 1001 Nunakal is not about migrant lives; the story takes place between six migrant couples. The film exposes the masks in conventional marriages without turning them into WhatsApp jokes.
It is not unheard of to tell lies to keep a married life happy. But 1001 Nunakal shows how painful it can be for a partner to realise a lie later.
Jithin Stanislaus, known for his work in Madhuram, is the cameraman, while the music has been composed by Neha Nair and Yakzan Gary Pereira. Nishadh Yusuf, who edited Operation Java and Thallumala, has handled the editing department. The film stars Vishnu Agasthya, Remya Suresh, Vidhya Vijayakumar, Rashmi K Nair, and Sudeep Koshy in pivotal roles. Most of the actors in this film are relatively new faces, which is something that the makers wanted.
The film has been bankrolled by Salim Ahamed, the director known for movies like Adaminte Makan Abu and Pathemari.
